I wish I could say the same for those who rendered it into the DVDs. Neither the picture quality nor the sound matched the tall claims of superior quality by the DVD makers. Worse, you can only enjoy this rendition of the Mahabhaarata if you know the Hindi language. If you don't, and have to depend on the "English" subtitles, you are out of luck. The subtitlers leave you with no doubt that they do not have any command of the English language and were unfit for the task. In many instances, their sentences did not make any sense. To give an example, never in the subtitles you have any reason to suspect that the characters address the elders in a reverent way. Subtitles of the Gita segments were so bad that I actually became angry! I admit that the theological sections would be more difficult. But what they produced is so nonsensical that it made a mockery of the Gita. I conclude that the DVD makers wanted only our money, but not give us any value for it. Mahabhaarata is simply the greatest true story ever told. The task for B.R Chopra was how to present the story faithfully. He passed that test very well! The sets were impressive and the dialogs wonderful. I suspect that by today's standards, some would not be impressed by the special effects. The actors and actresses did their parts in a dedicated manner.
